Owning the culinary podium: Chef Roary MacPherson of Oppidan won silver. His dish was a tasting of Newfoundland lamb. The visually striking dish featured lamb croquette, very tender lamb breast and braised lamb shank on a painted stripe of haskap berry jus (made from cultivated haskap berries from Campbellton, in central Newfoundland). Chef Roary MacPherson: Hospitality Newfoundland & Labrador Restaurateur of the Year – presented by the Restaurant Association of Newfoundland and Labrador, this award was established to recognize the essential role of the food service industry in developing tourism in Newfoundland and Labrador. This award was presented at the Tourism Excellence Awards Gala by Frank Murphy, representative of the Restaurant Association of Newfoundland and Labrador.


Chef Roary MacPherson: Good Food Innovation Award - Bronze: Bronze was awarded to Executive Chef Roary MacPherson from the Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland and Chef Mark Filatow of Waterfront Restaurant & Wine Bar in Kelowna, B.C. Roary’s menu was pure Newfoundland from the freshly baked molasses and oatmeal loaves to the deep-fried Screech ice cream, spiced beet cake and toffee sauce.  The beverage was rhubarb fizz and bakeapple slush.
